One of the great things about traditional archery with a recurve bow is that it can be kept as simple as you wish while retaining the time-honoured elegance that can never be achieved by any compound bow. Plus with a recurve, you get 10 to 20 percent better performance than with a longbow of equal draw weight and draw length (shooting the same arrow, of course). The aesthetics of doing it the old way is undoubtedly the best explanation for the resurgence of traditional archery in the past few years and the primary reason that many accomplished bowhunters are hanging up their compounds and returning to the basics.
