 QUICK TIPMake Sure Your Torch Doesn't let You Down Many a bowhunter has been spared a miserable night in the wet bush by his or her trusty torch, and making sure yours is in working order when you need it the most is a simple matter of common sense. With the tiny batteries that power hand torches today there is no excuse for not having a spare set in reserve at all times. Take the time to reverse one of the batteries that is in the torch to prevent it from accidental turning on in your pack. Keep your emergency torch with your emergency fire-starting kit in a dry, totally secure (that means not dangling from a belt loop) container or package. And most important of all, double check to make sure your torch is in your kit before you head into the bush. If you need your torch and find you left it at home, it could be very embarrassing or even very deadly. |
