Bohning Text Tite Bowstring Wax

Tex-Tite Bowstring Wax

Bohning Tex-Tite Bowstring Wax comes in a 1 oz tube. This is the string wax to use on Dacron bowstrings.

Tex-Tite contains a higher beeswax content than Seal-Tite and has a lower silicon content. This makes for a more firm wax that is more appropriate for Dacron strings used on traditional bows and older compound bows. It will also work fine on the newer Dyneema-based strings but the lower silicon content means that it won't be quite as effective at lubricating the much finer individual fibres in the newer string materials.

Bohning Seal Tite Bowstring Wax

Seal-Tite Bowstring Wax

Bohning Seal-Tite Bowstring Wax comes in a 1 oz tube. This is the string wax to use on Fast-flight and other high-tec Dyneema-based bowstrings.

Seal-Tite contains a higher Silicone content than Tex-Tite and has a lower beeswax content. This makes for a softer wax that penetrates into the string to lubricate the fine fibres that make up newer LME (low modulus of elasticity) string materials. Seal Tite also works fine on the Dacron-based strings and most other bow string materials.

Archery Tips and Tricks from NZAP QUICK TIPS

String-Wax Tips

Strings should be waxes periodically, at lest once a month. If you shoot regularly, once a week isn't too often. If you can see very fine white hairs on your bowstring it is desperately in need of a good waxing.

Wax is best applied to a slightly relaxed bowstring with the fibres opened a bit for optimum wax penetration. You can remove a traditional bowstring for waxing. A compound bow should have the limbs compressed with a bow press just enough to take the pressure off the string but not enough to actually remove it. If you don't have a bow press, just go ahead and wax with the string under tension.

The wax should be applied to the entire string including the centre serving and the end loops.

Apply the wax as evenly as possible then rub the string with your palm or between your fingers until it gets quite warm. String waxes are complex polymers with a long molecular structure that breaks down under heat so don't over do the rubbing. Warm to the touch is just right. Clean off the extra wax by rubbing with a dry cloth.

The life of a bowstring is dependant on the materials it is made from and the type of bow it is used on, but any string should give several years of dependable service if it is kept clean and waxed regularly.
