HHA Optimiser hunting sights have become famous in New Zealand and Australia for their rugged dependability and durability. This inherent toughness is achieved by CNC machining all major components from solid aluminium.
The OL5000 Optimiser features three full feet of .030 fibre-optic cable wrapped around a 1 5/8 inch (41mm) pin housing, which makes for one of the brightest sights there is. The OL-5000 features thumb screws for tool-free adjustments of windage and elevation and it will accept the Blue Burst Sight Lite and the Model Lens Kit B. The weight of the OL-5000 is only 8 oz. (227 grams).
The HHA OL-5000 is also available with .019 fiber-optic cable (Model OL-5019) by special order.
The HHA OL5500 Optimiser is the same great sight as the one above with a few features added. The 5500 has the same thumb screws and tool-free adjustments as the OL-5000 but it has a lot more fiber-optic cable and features the exclusive HHA rheostat for a very effective way to quickly adjust sight-pin brightness.
The OL5500 Optimiser features five feet of .030 fibre-optic cable wrapped around a 1 5/8 inch (41mm) pin housing. When you use the OL-5500 for the first time, you will instantly realise why the rheostat is necessary as in some light conditions the pin can be too bright without using the rheostat to tune it down a bit. The OL-5500 will accept the Blue Burst Sight Lite and the Model Lens Kit B.
The HHA OL5500 Optimiser is also available in .019 fiber optic (Model OL-5519)by special order. Weight is only 9 oz. (255 grams).
The HHA OL-3000 Bowhunting Sight is a somewhat simplified version of the Optimiser sights listed above. It has all the built-in quality of the other excellent sights in the HHA Optimizer lineup but with a smaller pin housing that won't accept the Sunburst Light or the lens kits that are available for the OL-5000 and the OL-5500. The pin housing 1 5/8 inch (41mm) and windage is adjusted with the same Optimiser slide featured on the other Optimiser sights.
At only 8 oz. (227 grams) the weight of the OL-3000 is the same as the OL-5000 and has a yellow sight ring on the pin housing for fast target acquisition. Available in right hand only but easily converted to left hand use.
The HHA Bushfire BF3000 will appeal to anyone looking for a lightweight, no-nonsense no-frills hunting or 3D sight with all the amazing quality of all the HHA sights, but without fancy adjustment and without the fancy price tag.
The Bushfire weighs in at a scant 5 ounces (142 grams) and has a 1 5/8 inch (41mm) sight housing with a full two feet of .029 fibre-optic cable. It also has a micro-adjustable windage scale. Adjustments for elevation are by allan key instead of the familiar HHA slide adjustment on the sights listed above.
The Bushfire does not accept the lens kit and there is no provision for a light. If you are looking for a high-quality single-pin sight with the reliability that come with Spartan simplicity, this is the one for you.
The HHA Optimiser Plus with the BSA Red Dot Scope is one of the most technologically advanced hunting sights available. Like all HHA sights, major components are machined from solid aluminium. The 30mm BSA Red Dot scope has an 11-position brightness switch so it can be adjusted to work equally well in the dark gloom of the deep bush or in the blinding glare of bright sunshine.
The complete HHA Optimiser Plus sight, including battery, weighs less than 400 grams (13 oz). Can be used on right or left hand bows.
If you already own a long-eye-relief sight (most pistol sights work well on compound bows) here is the HHA Optimiser Plus mount that you can use to adapt it to your bow. This is definitely the ultimate mounting and adjustment system for laser, holographic, red dot, and telescopic sights. The Optimiser Sight Mount is CNC machined from the same tough machined aluminium as all HHA sights.
The standard 7/16 Weaver scope rail is included with the Sight Mount and is can easily be adapted for left or right-hand use.
The HHA Blue Burst sight light is made from black anodised machined aluminium. The mounting bracket is screwed to exterior of your pin housing and a blue bulb illuminates the fiber optic coils. The Blue Burst fits all current models of the HHA Optimiser line except the OL-3000. This sight light is a useful aid for bowhunting after dark or in the deep bush.
The Blue Burst includes two batteries and features a rheostat so that the brightness of the sight pin can be easily controlled.

Bowhunting in cold weather and in the snow can be very rewarding and actually has several advantages to warm weather hunting. Most game animals, especially deer, are easier to see in the snow and tracking an animal is as easy as following a DOC track. Another big advantage of bow hunting in cold weather is that meat spoilage is not the problem that it is in the summer months. And of course, even the most popular hunting areas will be practically empty of other hunters as most of us head for home as soon as the temperature drops or the first flakes start to fall.
The secret of a successful cold-weather hunt is staying warm and dry. Dress in several layers of clothing with a layer of synthetic underwear to wick away moisture from the skin. Many cold weather outer garments made from fleece are available. These synthetic materials are quiet, water-resistant, warm, and lightweight. Wool is also an excellent insulator, even when wet and goose down is lightweight and offers excellent insulation if you can keep it dry. A neck scarf or turtleneck jumper will reduce heat loss through your neck and a good insulated hat will reduce heat lost through your head. When it really gets cold, an insulated hood on a hunting parka is your best bet for keeping your head warm.
Buy hunting boots that are a size too big so that you can wear an extra pair of wool socks and give a thought to a high-quality pair of old fashioned gum boots. The rubber will help eliminate your scent and keep your feet dry. Make sure that they fit properly as too loose gum boots can make walking long distances difficult and cause blisters. Boots that are too tight will restrict circulation and make your feet cold.
Before any cold weather bowhunt, get in several practice sessions wearing your full cold weather gear. Make sure your clothing doesn't get in the way of your bowstring and that your parka hood doesn't interfere with your release aid. An arm guard is always a good idea, not to protect your arm but to keep your parka sleeve out of the way of your bowstring.
