One of the most common repairs we get at the NZAP Pro Shop are strap-type release aids tangled in the lower cams of compound bows. Typically the bowhunter or target archer clips the release aid onto the string when putting the bow away between shooting sessions. Then he or she will show the bow to a mate who will give it a draw or two (we all do that)with fingers forgetting about the release aid still clipped to the string.
When the bow is let down (or in extreme cases, shot) the release aid becomes entangled in the lower cam. We have seen this result in bent cams and axles, cracked limbs, and broken strings, and in some cases, all three.
This disaster is easy to avoid if you train yourself to store your release aid by strapping it to the grip of your bow instead of the string. This simple tip could save you a $300 repair bill.
