Selecting just the right treestand to offer our customers in New Zealand has not been as easy as you might think. There are dozens of models to choose from and the hunting conditions in New Zealand are significantly different than in the Eastern and Midwestern USA where treestand hunting is the most popular. After carefully considering all the options available, the NZAP staff settled on the Lone Wolf Alpha Assault as being ideal for New Zealand conditions. The light weight of the Alpha (only 11 pounds or 5 kilograms)makes transport into the back blocks or on a helicopter convenient. This is an important consideration since Kiwis like to hunt farther from roads than anyone outside of Alaska.
This NZAP selection also fits the Kiwi mantra that less is more, as the smaller teardrop-shaped platform of the Assault is a tidy fit into the tightest trees in the thickest bush. And with the 5-kilogram carry weight, it is easy to transport on your back, quad, or helicopter. The one-piece aluminum platform measures just 26 inches by 19.5 inches, which is large enough for a comfortable stand while maintaining portability.
The patented 3-D camo platform is both distinctive and practical as is the self-leveling 8-inch by 12-inch cushioned seat is comfortable. A unique feature of the Assault is the offset bracket that allows setting up on just about any tree, even hopelessly crooked ones.
The Alpha Assault comes complete with straps that fit any tree between 4-inches and 22-inches in diameter and a set of back-pack straps for easy carrying. Also included is an EZ-Hang hook system that makes short work of setting up, and a certified full-body safety harness. The maximum weight limit of the Assault is a generous 159 kilograms (350 pounds) for the total weight of the bowhunter and his or her complete kit.
