Choosing the Right Target Bow

If you are a beginning target archer, selecting just the right bow to get going with can be a bit daunting. This is especially true if you are a parent trying to chose a new bow for a son or daughter. It would be easier if we could simply recommend that any child under 10 (or some other arbitrary age) should have a 48 inch bow, but this would be a cop out. These simplistic formula don't work very well just because the size and strength of 10-year-old children doesn't comply with any formula and can vary greatly. Therefore, regardless of age, the individual abilities of each shooter must be taken into consideration, so there can be no hard and fast rule.

The most important thing to keep in mind for children and adults, is that archery with the correct equipment is a lot of fun, and it's important to keep it that way. Very young children are usually perfectly happy if they can hit the target (where in the target doesn't matter), but it is important that the arrow stick in the target and not bounce off. Young shooters from the early teens and adults will need more sophisticated equipment and a good set of arrows. Usually a sight is appropriate at this point.

The single most important consideration is selecting a bow for a beginner of any age is draw weight. If a bow is difficult for a new shooter to draw, it won't be much fun to shoot. And if it isn't fun to shoot, the new archer won't do it--it's as simple as that. For this reason, NZAP, have a 30-day exchange policy on all new target bows sold. If the bow you buy turns out to be anything other than just the right draw weight, we will exchange the limbs (or the entire bow if need be) at no cost to you, except for the postage you pay to return the limbs, for up to a full month after purchase.
