An Emergency Arm Guard

A fast and easy answer to a lost or forgotten arm guard is at hand if you have an old leather boot laying around. Simply cut the tongue out of the boot, trim to size, punch holes along both long edges, and lace it to your arm using the old boot lace.

If you want to get fancy, soaking the leather overnight in warm water with a little detergent in it and then pressing it between two boards until dry will make it flat and stiff. While you are at it use some of the remaining leather to fashion a spare finger tab.
