Armguards
Armguards used in target archery and in bowhunting serve several important functions. Naturally they are primarily worn to protect the skin of the forearm from painful string slap. But they also are worn to keep the sleeve of your shirt or hunting jacket from contacting the string. This protects the shirt or jacket but it can also have a dramatic effect on accuracy. We have seen countless cases where a shooter was having difficulty achieving decent groups because there was a barely noticeable contact between the bowstring and the shooter's sleeve.
Although any armguard that fits properly will do he job, there are a few differences between armguards worn by target archers and by bowhunters. First, the colour is usually different. Various camo patterns are the favourites of most bowhunters while solid colours are favoured by the target shooters. Armguards used on the target range are also usually smaller and lighter than the ones used for hunting.
Saunders Diamond Defender Arm Guard
The Diamond Defender is a sturdy, molded plastic armguard from Saunders Archery. For bowhunters a plastic armguard makes a lot of sense as the plastic will not absorb odors as will fabric or leather. The Diamond Defender is wide enough to keep the heaviest jacket tucked in during cold weather hunts, yet the open design keeps things cool in hot weather.
The Diamond Defender features quick-hook, adjustable elastic arm bands with hooks that are large enough to make fastening quick, easy, and secure. Size is a generous four inches by seven-and-a-half inches.
