One of the great things about traditional archery is that it can be kept simple with an elegance that can never be achieved by any compound bow. This is undoubtedly the best explanation for the resurgence of traditional archery in the past few years and the primary reason that many accomplished bowhunters are hanging up their compounds and returning to the basics. Those of us who appreciate the delight in shooting arrows accurately without the benefit of sights, fancy rests or anything but primal instinct will truly appreciate the Martin Hatfield.
There are very few models of traditional bows that can boast of a namesake with as much accumulated knowledge of archery as the Martin Hatfield Take-Down recurve. The Hatfield is named after Larry Hatfield, one of the early managers of Damond Howatt, who designed many of the Martin bows Thus a culmination of decades of experience from the worlds foremost bowyers goes into its design. The laminated limbs mount securely to a rigid and versatile riser built with an elegant combination of domestic and exotic hardwoods. The Hatfield is a performance bow that is designed to go wherever you go and to get the job done with a minimum of fuss and to exceed the most demanding expectations of the most avid traditional bowhunter.
The riser is hand crafted from a variety of woods including dyed Birch laminations with inset Bubinga grip. Limbs are laminated from layers of hardwood and faced with clear unidirectional fiberglass that gives strength and stability to the limbs while avoiding a plastic look. In fact the limbs look like they are made from solid wood laminates and many of our customers are surprised to learn that there is any fiberglass in them at all. The limb tips are reinforces with Ovangkol, a dark and very strong hardwood indigenous to tropical West Africa, and black fiberglass overlays to stand up to the punishment of modern string materials.
The Martin Hatfield comes complete with an owner’s manual, an arrow rest, a Flemish bowstring and a bow stringer. NZAP have a limited number of Hatfields in stock that we use as demonstrators. Your Hatfield will be made to order direct from Martin. You can usually expect delivery in six to eight weeks, but this varies considerably with demand. Building a Hatfield can't be rushed and they are always worth waiting for.
