Installing inserts in carbon arrow shafts is easy and straightforward. Always clean the inside of the shaft with a bronze bore brush (sold in Hunting and Fishing Stores and gun shops) and use a high-quality slow-setting epoxy. The five-minuet type of household epoxy is brittle and won't hold well. WEST System or Epiglass marine epoxies (sold in marine stores) both work very well as does the one sold by Easton. Super glue also works OK and is recommended by gold Tip. Be careful though. Super glue sets very quickly and if you don't get it right the first time, it can ruin your shaft.
After installing the insert, let the glue cure for at least 24 hours before using the arrows or even screwing in the point. This is especially important with Easton HIT inserts used in the Axis Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) arrows and the ST Axis arrows.
If you get epoxy inside the insert you won't be able to screw in the point. You can fix this easily by chasing out the threads with a 8-32 National Course tap (UNC Imperial), available from any engineering supply for a few dollars.
