Don't try to use a bowfishing arrow without first attaching it to a proper bowfishing line, preferably with an AMS Safety Slide. Bowfishing arrows are very heavy and stiff and if shot without being attached to a fishing line, they will leave the bow at a crazy angle and you won't be able to hit anything with them.
The string trailing behind serves the same function as fletching on a normal arrow and will help to keep the fishing arrow flying straight and on target.
