This rugged solid aluminium reel seat screws into the stabiliser bushing of practically any bow and works equally well on both compound and traditional bows. It allows a standard fishing reel to be used for bowfishing.
The Cajun Reel Mount works with any reel with a standard mounting flange but you will need line with a heavier than usual breaking strength to stand up to the forces generated by shooting a heavy arrow.
This mount is perfect for use with the Zebco 808 reel.
Don't fancy being tied to something that wants to eat you? The AMS Big-Game Bowfishing Float System includes a shaft, which screws into your bow's stabiliser bushing, and a float, which slides over the shaft.
In use, your bowfishing line is tied to the float instead of to the bow or reel so that when the fish (or whatever sort of creature you have managed to shoot) pulls all the line off your reel, the float goes overboard (instead of your bow and/or you) and you give chase. When the fish gets tired enough, you haul it aboard. A great system.
The AMS Big Game Float System is available in two sizes. The compact size measures 7.6cm(3 inches) wide and 12.7cm (5 inches) long and is just the thing for smaller species. The Big Game Mega Float System is 12.7cm (5 inches) wide and nearly 23cm (9 inches) long and is the smart choice if you are after mega fish, rays, and sharks.
These Muzzy Uni-Knock Adapters fit over our standard 5/16 solid-fibreglass bowfishing arrows allowing the use of the Easton Super Uni Nocks or any of the other brands of nocks that fit the Easton Uni-Bushing. (The Bohning Signature Nock and the Gold Tip Nock both work well with this system).
For a really interesting effect, try a Luminock on your fishing arrows using this adapter. Just make sure to dry off your nock after every shot and don't try it in salt water.
The big advantage of the Muzzy Uni-Knock Adapters is that they allow damaged nocks to be replaced in a few seconds and they let you easily adjust the angle of your nock for proper clearance of the safety-slide stop. Sold in packets of three adapters.
Bowfishing often involves shooting your bow with wet fingers, which causes two problems. First water saturation can wreck your good finger tab or finger glove, and salt water will quickly destroy even the best mechanical release aid.
Second, when wet, even the toughest fingers are more sensitive and tender to the bowstring and it doesn't take a lot of shooting to raise painful blisters.
The answer is No-Glove. These soft rubber finger grips fit over your bow string allowing you to shoot without a glove or tab and without raising painful welts on your fingertips.
No matter what kind of bowfishing reel and bow you are using, when you have a big fish on the other end of your line, it can be a real chore to slow it down or stop it without painful line burns.
This dandy little device mounts on your stabiliser bushing and provides a convenient line brake, much like the drag on a conventional reel. One turn of line around the hard rubber Finger Saver will slow any fish. If you want to stop a serious run, two or three turns will do the job.
The Muzzy Finger Saver is magic with he AMS Retriever Reel but if your reel mounts on the stabiliser bushing, you can mount the Finger Saver on the inside of the riser on most newer bows. Many older bows do not have this feature so check before you buy one.
Here is a cool way to make a target for bowfishing practice. Take an ordinary one or two-litre plastic milk bottle and pour about one inch of sand mixed with wood glue (from Mitre10)into the bottom. When it is dry fill the rest of the bottle with insulating foam (also from Mitre10) and let it set.
If you want to go nuts about it, paint it to look like a fish. Now tie a five-pound weight from a scuba belt (get one at your local scuba shop) onto the handle with a piece of heavy string about 1.3 meters long and toss it into water about 2 meters deep. The sand in the bottom will keep the milk bottle horizontal and make a perfect target about two feet deep.
Take the barb out of your fishing point and the target will last for about two-dozen shots. Be sure to clean up the litter after you are finished shooting.
