A File for Bowfishing
One of the most handy tools a bowhunter of any kind can have in his or her kit is a small single-cut mill file with a fine tooth, and this is particularly true of bowfishers. Select one that is no more 6-inches long and has a plastic grip protecting the tang end. Another option is to carry a multi tool, such as the Leatherman Wave, that has a built in file.
The primary purpose of the file is, of course, to keep the tips of your bowfishing points sharp, but many bowfishers don't realise that points with replaceable tips can usually be renewed just as easily as point that don't have replaceable tips. Most replaceable tips can be re sharpened several times before they need to be replaced, and some larger points that don't have replaceable tips can
To sharpen a tip with your file, stroke from the back of the point towards the tip while trying to retain the original contour of the tip. Only remove enough material to renew the point. After you do this a few times, you will be amazed at how easy it is to maintain your tips bright and sharp and ready for the next big fish.
