Bowfishing Bonanza DVD
with Dale Karsh and Byron Ferguson
This bowfishing DVD from 3 Rivers Archery combines bowfishing how-to instruction with non-stop bowfishing action. Dale Karsh shows how to set up traditional bows with everything from the basic and simple Cajun tape-on reel to the more sophisticated and technical AMS Retriever Reel.
There are also detailed descriptions of arrow and point selection and correct arrow setup. Dale then demonstrates some of the more useful accessories that are available. Once Dale has the bows set up just the way he wants them, he and Byron Ferguson (author of Become the Arrow)take to the water and the fishing action begins.

The star of the show is the silver carp, an introduced species of carp from Asia that has taken over several American rivers the way koi carp have taken over the Waikato. The thing that sets the silver carp apart from more sedentary members of the carp family is that they like to jump and it isn't unusual for a 10 kilogram specimen to sail ten feet in the air. This makes for some exciting and unusual bowfishing.
This hilarious and outrageous video is one that you will watch over and over and be talking about for a long time. The over populated silver carp is the star of the show, flying into and over the boat as bowfisherman take aim and cover at the same time.

Bowfishing in Muddy Water
Bowfishing for carp in muddy water can be very frustrating because you can often see fish rolling on the surface but they aren't visible long enough for a shot. Don't waste your time with these rolling fish but watch for a tail breaking the surface that indicates a feeding fish, or the V-shaped wake of a fish swimming just below the surface.
Carp are bottom feeders and can be nearly vertical when feeding. They also often forage in shallow water so that you can see their tails breaking the surface. Visualise the fish attached to the tail with its head down at a 45 to 80 degree angle to the bottom and take your shot one or two feet below the tail.
If you spot the wake of a fish swimming below the surface, place your shot about ten inches in front and ten inches below the point of the wake. You won't score all the time with these techniques. You may not even score most of the time. But you will score often enough to make it worth the effort.
