NZAP Wood Safety Arrows are assembled here in the NZAP workshop. We take the standard wood kid's arrow and cut off the steel point on the band saw then install a HTM Rubber Blunt where the steel point used to be.
This slight modification greatly increases the safety of the arrow when used by young children or wherever there is even the slightest danger of an arrow going astray and doing mischief to the family pet or the local bird life. The rubber tip also prevents an arrow from burrowing itself under the grass and disappearing forever (or until the next time you mow the lawn). These arrows must still be used only under close adult supervision because, unless they are used properly, the hard rubber tip is still capable of inflecting a painful bruise or of taking out a neighbour's window pane.
NZAP Wood Safety Arrows are suitable for any bow up to about 30-pounds of draw weight and it is the arrow that comes with the Reddiex Backyard Archery Set
Kids of all ages love archery! At NZAP, we are constantly amazed by the performance of young children who come into our indoor archery range to try out a bow. Kids as young as seven or eight are often shooting like experts after only a few basic lessons and a short practice session. Archery is also a sport where young girls and boys perform equally and with the same level of enjoyment.
However, arrows are by definition, projectiles, and projectiles, by definition, are potentially dangerous. Even our relatively innocent toy arrows with the suction-cup tip, if used incorrectly, will knock a water glass off of a table or give the cat a fright. The non-lethal NZAP Safety Arrow is appropriate for use by all ages of archers, but it is capable of leaving a painful bruise or breaking a window pane.
Archery is a wonderful and safe family sport, but common sense dictates that when young children are involved, close adult supervision and guidance are required to insure that it stays that way. When you start your child in archery, even with a toy bow, make sure that they have clear and easily understood rules about where and when it is safe for them to shoot, and they will be on their way to a lifetime of fun and adventure.
