If you were a bowhunter fifty years ago (like some of us here at NZAP) and you wanted to convert your aluminium or fibreglass arrows (no one had ever heard of carbon arrows) from field points to broadheads, you had your work cut out for you. First you had to heat the shaft enough to remove your field point then glue in a tapered adapter in its place. The broadhead was then glued onto the adapter. The whole process was so time consuming that most serious bowhunters chose to maintain two sets of arrows, one for target practice and another for hunting.
That all changed when Easton Archery introduced the RPS (Replaceable Point System) insert and made it possible to switch between field points and broadheads in a few seconds. The RPS system also allowed archers to quickly change between point weights, which greatly facilitated arrow tuning. It was several years before broadheads were manufactured with a built-in 8-32 thread to match the inserts so it was still necessary to glue then onto a tapered RPS adapter, but even that was a great step forward.
At NZAP we try to keep all the most popular arrow inserts in stock and ready to ship. We keep a variety of inserts available for all the arrows we stock and normally sell plus we have a few other popular ones for arrows we do not stock. If you don't see just the insert you need here, get in touch as we may have what you are looking for in the back room.
Easton RPS Inserts are machined from aluminium with an 8/32 internal thread based on the Easton Replaceable Point System. The ones listed here are for aluminium shafts having an Easton four-digit size. Using these inserts with your aluminium arrow shafts makes the points interchangeable with just about any arrow point or broadhead made. These are the ones you want for your GameGetter, Camo Hunter, SuperSlam, Legacy, Jazz and Blues arrow shafts. The smallest size aluminium shaft that will accept an RPS insert is 1716. Smaller sizes will need a glue-in point.
Easton ST RPS Aluminium Inserts are the standard 8/32 internal thread based on the Easton Replaceable Point System. Using these inserts with your carbon arrow shafts makes the points interchangeable with just about any arrow point or broadhead made. ST inserts are designed primarily for the Easton ST Excel arrows but they will also fit Easton ST Epic Arrows.
Easton HP Inserts are an aluminium insert with an 8/32 internal thread based on the Easton Replaceable Point System but are longer and are machined to a higher standard of precision than the regular RPS inserts. HP inserts and are designed for the Easton ST Epic arrow shafts with Nano-Tube construction, but they are an excellent way to up grade your St Excel arrows as well. Using these inserts with your aluminium arrow shafts makes the points interchangeable with just about any arrow point or broadhead made.
HP inserts come in three sizes. HP-4 are intended for the Epic 300 and 340 shaft sizes and HP-3 are intended for the ST Epic 400, 500, and 600 sizes and the ACC Pro Hunter sizes 300 and 340. The HP-2 is intended for ACC Pro Hunter sizes 440 and 390 shafts.
Easton CB aluminium Inserts have a 8/32 internal thread based on the Easton Replaceable Point System. CB inserts fit the Easton LightSpeed Arrows and the FlatLine, PowerFlight, and LightSpeed 3D, and a few others that are not normally stocked by NZAP. CB Inserts also fit many other full dimension carbon shafts, such as the Beman Bowhunter, Gold Tip Hunter and the Carbon Impact FAT Shafts. Using the Easton CB arrow inserts with your carbon arrow shafts makes the points interchangeable with just about any arrow point or broadhead made.
Easton CB Microlite Inserts are an aluminium insert with an 8/32 internal thread based on the Easton Replaceable Point System and weigh 45 percent less than the standard CB inserts. Easton CB Microlite Inserts fit the same shafts as the CB insert including the Easton LightSpeed and the FlatLine, PowerFlight, and LightSpeed 3D, plus a few others that are not normally stocked by NZAP.
CB Microlite Inserts also fit many other full dimension carbon shafts, such as the Beman Bowhunter, the Gold Tip Hunter and the Carbon Impact FAT Shafts. Using these inserts with your aluminium arrow shafts makes the points interchangeable with all standard points and broadheads.
Easton HIT Arrow Inserts have a 8/32 internal thread like all other Easton inserts but they are the same diameter as the shank on a standard point making it possible to do away with the external flange. This makes the insert invisible (thus the Hidden Insert Technology name). It also eliminates two contact surfaces making much higher precision in point alignment possible. HIT inserts fit most Easton small-diameter arrow shafts including the Super Slim, the ST Axis and The Full Metal Jacket.
Easton Half-Out Insertsare designed to allow the RPS interchangeable point system to be used on the smaller sizes of A/C/C and Redline arrows. A/C/Cs are becoming increasingly popular with bow hunters looking for the ultimate hunting shaft, and the Half-Out inserts permit field and target points to be easily changed to a broadhead. Half-Out inserts are available to fit A/C/C sizes 3-18, 3-28,3-39, and to fit Redline Sizes 600, 690, and 780.
Every so often it is necessary to remove the insert or target point in an aluminium shaft. These are usually glued in place with a dab of hot-melt glue. It is a common practice to heat the tip over a flame on a gas stove or a candle to soften the glue enough for the point or insert to be removed. The danger is that you can easily overheat the shaft enough to remove the temper, and the shaft will bend on the first shot.
I found a safer way to remove the points. I found that dipping them in a cup of boiling water straight from the jug did the trick perfectly. I soaked them for five seconds or so and used the pliers with tape over the jaws to remove the old points. There is no danger of damaging the shaft that way.
