QUICK TIPS"Total-Package" Concealment Successful bowhunting requires the stalker to take a shooting position that is as close as possible to his or her quarry. This requires a "total package" approach to concealment. A comfortable set of camo outer wear will do wonders to help you blend into the local scenery, but be sure to hide your face (the brightest part of your body) behind a camo head net or an application of camo face paint. Failure to pay attention to your quarry's other senses of smell and hearing can make the difference between a successful bowhunt and an empty chiller. Make sure you have showered recently with a scent-free soap (Scent Killer works well) and washed your hunting clothing with an appropriate laundry detergent (such as UV Killer.) Once you have taken care of sight and smell, it is time to deal with your quarry's hearing. Make sure you kit is free of any stiff nylon (non-fleece gaiters and noisy rain wear are the worst culprits) or other noisy fabrics, cover your sight window and arrow rest (where appropriate) with camo sight-window fleece, and lube wheels, cams and cable slides with a scent-free oil. These few trick and tips may seem obvious but most bowhunters are content with a few items of camo outer clothing and ignore everything else. However, you can be assured that if you practice total-package concealment, your bowhunting success with increase dramatically. |
